Writing

I've always been a writer but never had the courage to pursue my dream until my mum died in 2023 and I learned that life is too short to hide your true colours. Since then I’ve expanded my art practice to include written work exploring; healing through nature, growth, connection, history and fable. My focus has been on works for younger readers but this may evolve along with my practice. My writing practice is supported by drawing and painting characters and worlds as I bring them into being.

What I write about

As with my visual art I am inspired by nature, and the power and inner strength of peaceful people, namely women. I explore themes of: magic, the natural world, and feminine power. My work is evolving but I’m drawn to writing stories for younger readers (Tweens to YA) because I have so many memories of really falling in love with stories at that age, ones you can come home to again and again as an adult. My inspirations include (almost too many to name): J.R.R Tolkien, Peter S. Beagle, Ursula Le Guin, Diana Wynn-Jones, Alexander Llyod, Susan Cooper, Katherine Rundell (Rooftoppers!), Daisy May Johnson, Skye Mckenna, Judith Rossell, Sophie Anderson, Michelle Harrison, and J.J. Arcanjo.
