About the Artist & Contact Details

I am an artist living and working in Melbourne, Australia, I grew up in WA (Perth/Fremantle). I work with acrylic on canvas in a style with a heavy outline and patterned borders. I also work in textile to create insignia for the non-powerful in the form of flags and banners with motifs for peace-lovers. When painting and creating textile works I use a folkloric or naive style.

I have been shortlisted and exhibited both in the UK and Australia (see exhibition list), been a recipient of Yarra City Council grants to show and for mentorship, and have created custom works on request for clients including for commercial clients (see examples of my work in my portfolio).

I am inspired by a range of sources, in the main my work references: Irish, Sicilian and other folklore, nature and animals, the computer game Zelda, illuminated manuscripts, old book illustrations, pictorial modes of communication such as the semaphore alphabet and the Victorian language of flowers, the decorative arts such as textiles, jewellery, treasure, ancient manuscripts, patterned tiles, wood carvings, painted ornaments and stained glass windows.

I make women the centre of my art. Historically women are present only on the margins of ‘important’ work or central only as ‘objects’ without their own strength or space. My work seeks to remedy this, placing women in their own quiet space where they find strength within themselves through connection with the natural world around them. This practice also seeks to highlight the importance of animals and nature in our world.
